Today the New York City Health Department issued a warning about synthetic marijuana. According to ABC 7, in the past four days, there have been 15 people with severe reactions to the drug. In addition, emergency room visits from this substance more than doubled this year.
In April, Choices magazine featured an article called “Scary Spice” all about this substance. It includes the story of a teen named Emily, who is now in a wheelchair after smoking synthetic marijuana. She damaged nearly three quarters of her brain and remains legally blind.
According to Dawn Dearden, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, “Smoking synthetic marijuana is like playing Russian roulette. You can have no idea what’s going to happen when it’s in your body.”
