Each year on November 12th, the nation celebrates Chicken Soup For the Soul Day. This day is not only intended to celebrate the beloved series of true stories from the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, but to celebrate “who you are, where you have been, where you are going and who you will be thankful to when you get there.”
Since their first title was released in 1993, it’s become almost impossible to not know and love at least one version of the series that explores emotional and inspirational stories from people of all types and circumstances. Any of the 200+ Chicken Soup for the Soul titles have been passed around the bunk sleep away camp, wrapped up as gifts for the holidays, given to people in need of strength, inspiration, or empathy.
Here at Choices/TeenBeing, we share many of the goals of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, and we hope you will join our celebration today by sharing an empathy-inspiring story with your teens. Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is a classic, or the Different Like You series from Choices (like “Eric is Getting Healthy” or “Elisabeth Has Albinism”), are easily shareable and can help teens understand the world from another teen’s perspective.
We’re also building an Empathy Book List for an upcoming issue of Choices Magazine and would love for you to contribute! What other books do you think teach empathy to teens? Let us know your favorites in the comments below!
