It’s Monday and we’re hungry! We gave you a list of the 10 foods teens should eat in our September issue and now we want to show you some tasty ways to prepare them. Start the week off right with a simple, healthy, and delicious recipe that focuses on teen nutrition and that even the most kitchen-newbie can create. This week, Kale Chips!
Craving the tasty crunch of a potato chip? Reach for a handful of these homemade kale chips instead- they taste so delicious we almost don’t believe they’re good for us!
- 1 bunch of kale (the leaves can be either curly or flat)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- salt, to taste
- Preheat oven to 300˚ F
- Rinse the kale, then dry it with a dishtowel or salad spinner
- Using a pair of clean scissors, remove the stems and center ribs of the kale. Then cut the leaves into large pieces. With clean hands, toss the kale with olive oil in a bowl, then sprinkle with salt
- Arrange the leaves in a single layer on one large or two small baking sheets
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until very crisp. Place baking sheet on a rack to cool.
*Bonus: Sprinkle Parmesan cheese, powdered garlic, or chili powder on the chips after they’re cooked if you want to try different versions.
